About the National Forum

The 2026 National Forum will bring together education leaders from across the country to share ideas, explore policy and practice, and strengthen the relationships that help states move education forward.

This year’s Forum is grounded in the spirit of The Compact Renewed and the shared commitment that has long defined Education Commission of the States: states learning from one another and leading together.

Important Dates and Deadlines

Please review the dates below carefully. Meeting deadlines helps us promote your session, prepare materials and support a strong attendee experience.

April 2 – Session acceptance confirmation deadline.

May 18 – Social media toolkit available.

May 23 – Deadline to meet with your ECS session lead.

May 29 – Registration and lodging deadline.

June 19 – Presentation slides due for review.

June 19 – Session materials deadline.

June 26 – Registration payment deadline.

July 8 – National Forum begins.


What to submit

By the listed deadlines, presenters may be asked to provide:

  1. Presentation slides.
  2. Handouts or supplemental resources.
  3. Accessibility considerations or accommodation needs.

Session Logistics

Additional logistical details will be posted here as they become available. Each session will include an assigned room and time slot. Depending on the format, sessions may include a moderator, host, audience Q&A or app-based audience engagement.

Room Setup and Technology


Presenters can generally expect:

  • Screen and projector or display.
  • Microphones.
  • A laptop with their session pre-loaded.
  • Internet access.
  • On-site staff and/or AV support.

Please note any special technology needs as early as possible.


Timing


To ensure a strong experience for attendees and other presenters, sessions must begin and end on time. We recommend building in time for transitions, audience participation and questions, as appropriate.

Presenter Checklist



Before the Forum

  • Confirm your participation
  • Review your session. title,descriptionand speaker information for accuracy
  • Submit your bio and headshot.
  • Coordinate with any co-presenters on content and roles
  • Meet with yourECS session lead.
  • Review presentation and slide guidance.
  • Submit slides and any session resources by deadline.
  • Use the social media toolkit to promote your session.


Before You Travel

  • Confirm your travel and hotel details.
  • Review your session date, time and room assignment.
  • Save presenter contact information.
  • Bring a backup copy of your presentation, if requested.


On Site

  • Arrive early for your session.
  • Meet your session host or ECS staff contact.
  • Test slides, audio and any embedded media.
  • Keep remarks aligned to allotted time.
  • Encourage attendees to access session resources through the event app or webpage.


Presentation Guidance


The strongest National Forum sessions are timely, practical and engaging. We encourage presenters to focus on clear takeaways and real value for attendees.

Helpful Tips

  • Keep your audience in mind and tailor examples accordingly.
  • Lead with the “why” before moving into policy, practice or implementation details.
  • Use plain language whenever possible.
  • Prioritize substance over slide volume.
  • Include practical examples, lessons learned or questions for reflection.
  • Leave time for discussion, if your format allows.

Slide Guidance

Please keep slides:

  • Visually clear and easy to read.
  • Limited in text density.
  • Accessible, including strong color contrast and readable font sizes.
  • Free of unnecessary animations or heavy design elements that may not display reliably.

To support attendees after your session, we encourage presenters to share relevant materials in advance whenever possible.

When will I receive my final session details?

Final session timing, room information and on-site logistics will be shared closer to the event date.

Do I need to submit my slides in advance?

Yes. Final slides are due no later than June 19. Advance submission helps our team review for accessibility, formatting and logistical readiness.

Can I update my slides after the deadline?

We encourage presenters to finalize materials by the deadline whenever possible.

Will my session materials be shared with attendees?

If you provide materials for distribution, ECS may make them available through the event app or other attendee resource channels.

Can I promote my session on social media?

Yes, and we encourage it. Please use the provided graphics, social media handles and suggested language where helpful.
